Pre-Writing Activity:  Presidential Elections

 

1.  In your group, discuss the information you have received about elections.  Determine which sources of information you found most useful.

 

2.  On a separate sheet of paper, organize your information into columns according to subject.  Suggestions for subjects:  the election system, the candidates, the issues...

 

3.  From the organized information you now have, consider a major thought relationship (eg. exemplification, enumeration, comparison, contrast...) that would organize this information most effectively in a paper.

4.  Now that you have a plan of attack, propose (a) possible thesis statement(s) that can be supported using your major thought relationship.

5.  If time remains, consider supporting arguments and examples and write an outline based on your thesis statement and major thought relationship.  Be sure to bring this to class with you, since you will write an in-class essay based on your thesis statement and the support you have found for it!
