"Plagiarism &
the Worms of Accountability"
Sample Paraphrase:
When
students plagiarize, they often destroy the relationship of trust that has been
established with the teacher. When
students are caught plagiarizing and then attempt to convince their teacher
that they didn't do anything wrong, the teacher will often question the
originality of all previous assignments.
Also, students who are able to avoid detection, "compromise"
their principles. Students sometimes
believe that the possible rewards for plagiarism outweigh the manner in which
they achieve the results. Students
complain that teachers give too much work, so they feel pressure to take the
easy way out and plagiarize to maintain their scores in order to be admitted to
a university.
Sample Summary:
If caught
plagiarizing, a student can not only destroy the relationship of trust with a
teacher, but also calls into question the originality of previous
assignments. Even if a student avoids
detection, s/he will have compromised his/her principles, often believing that
the ends--such as getting good grades--justify the means--plagiarism.
