Numa
Markee is Associate Professor and Director of the Division
of English as an International Language at the University
of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
His
research interests include the management of curricular innovation,
conversation analysis applied to second language classrooms,
and language in development. He has published extensively
in these areas; his first book, Managing
Curricular Innovation (1997, Cambridge University Press),
analyzes curriculum design from a diffusion of innovations
perspective on social change. His second book, Conversation
Analysis (2000, Lawrence Erlbaum) investigates how the
techniques of conversation analysis may be used to analyze
instructed SLA data. Most recently, he was guest editor of
the special topics issue of TESOL
Quarterly in 2002 on language in development.
